We don't always want to hear guidance. I learned this very quickly when I started to work with the Teachers of Humanity in particular. We tend to want to walk into walls sometimes because that is what we are so used to.
Have you ever received a really big intuitive nudge not to do something but then gone ahead and done it anyway?! We all have. It's one of the challenges of just being human, I suspect. We get ideas and notions and then completely disregard them because we want something else or don't think this intuitive idea fits into our plans (sometimes it doesn't).
But we always need to remember that intuition comes from a higher place than the mind - what we think and what we feel come from pretty different Sources. That feeling or guidance you receive just before something goes wrong is what we need to listen to if we want our lives to grow. One of the most common reasons to choose thoughts over feelings is that we need the pain. We need to reaffirm just how hard life is. We are all suseptible to this at times. And it's not until we go through it over and over again that we actually, slowly, start to listen.
You see the mind is all-powerful for most of us. We think too much about who we are and what we are capable of. Not to mention what we think we need, should have or want right now!! The spiritual essence of our lives - the soul and it's connection to the greater source of information (God) - is often very quiet, not doing anything but guiding us to our highest possible outcome...
Our spiritually tuned ears are just not on the right frequency much of the time to hear that Divine Guidance that channels through our intuitive nudges. We are just singing along to some song that we don't really like but which we know the words to!! It's comfortable.
I like to think of this state as 'spiritually deaf', and I am guilty of it - more often than I'd really like to admit. We are wide open to the ego/mind/fear work but not the voice of God in our lives. I believe that part of this is that we are scared... what will really happen if we listen, where will our lives be taken, and will we still be comfortable? The answer to that last bit is likely to be - no, for the short term, and yes, for the long term. There is always a little unsettledness around when we are changing the structure of our lives.
What really bothers me about this spiritual deafness, though, is just how much we choose hurt over love when we tune our guidance out. Are we really that horrible that we have to choose pain, that we can't listen to our inner-knowingness and be healed? The ability to feel that we deserve grace is usually behind this. How has it become so ingrained in our psyche that we should choose pain over love? Intuition is love, and listening to it regularly is to be in a state of love, and the outcome of love is always grace. But I guess, from what I've learned working with angels, is that we can't always trust our intuition because we just haven't been trained to. We assume the ego/fear voice knows best because that's the station we've been listening to for so long. The ego voice has a very clever way to telling us that there aren't any other stations out there to listen in to - this is it, the last bastion of hope comes from this loud voice that wants pain! It makes so little sense when put like that...
So, training for some of us is just learning the hard way. We feel that we shouldn't do something and do it anyway and end up hurting ourselves, our relationships or our financial situation. If we do this enough times, we usually start to wake up and question our behaviours.
Good training, on the other hand, is experiencing the outcome of listening to our intuition and feeling the joy of getting it right! We don't learn without experience, but we don't actually need pain to learn either. We need to get over our hard-headedness sometimes and just allow ourselves to see that life can be really, really good rather than really, really depressing.
We can start right now to retrain ourselves by taking in a deep breathe here and now and asking if there are any messages we have been ignoring. Sometimes the simplest things like clearing out the closet or going for a walk are intuition because they are leading us to clear out old baggage, move our bodies and shift stuck energy in our homes - which clears our minds and help us hear more intuitive thought. Intuition is about life, the day to day, nitty gritty of life, not just the big stuff.
So, be careful what you disregard and be careful which voice you follow each day. You can choose love in this very easy way.
